All Slate Valley Schools will be closed today due to the weather. Typically this would have been a delayed start, but because it is a scheduled half day we need to just cancel. Parent teacher conferences will be rescheduled.

Yesterday, 6th graders learned about the Revolutionary War. Our thanks to Lorraine Brown and Walter Sperr from the Fair Haven Historical Society for being here and sharing incredible stories from that time in American history.

Yesterday, 6th graders raked the leaves around CES. It's fun and community-minded at the same time! Thanks, 6th graders!

Enjoy the video shown at Friday's assembly, highlighting our 5th grade.

Last Friday, first graders visited Vermont State University’s Castleton Campus. The university's students, who are studying Physical Science for Elementary Teachers, prepared activities for our students to help them learn about light and sound.

The next Slate Valley Community Advisory Council meeting will be Monday, November 6th, from 5:45 - 6:45 PM in the Central Office Conference Room at FHUMHS. If you are interested in helping bridge the gap between the community and school, please join Brooke Olsen-Farrell, our district's superintendent, along with other administrative staff for an hour of conversation. All are welcome! Information and Agenda can be found at https://www.slatevalleyunified.org/page/slate-valley-community-advisory-council.

On Tuesday, Alyssa from Vermont Fish and Wildlife came to talk to our PreK and other students. We learned a lot about Bats!!

Last week, our fourth graders went to visit Hubbardton Forge. They learned all about making lamps and even made their own! The picture doesn't do it justice, the lights were amazing!

On Friday, October 27th, we held our traditional Book Character Parade. Enjoy the photos! (Batch One)

Today was our second annual Community Safety Day! Check out these photos of students learning important safety procedures from the police, the fire department, the EMT's and the bus.

CES School Spirit Week wrapped up today with Comfy Day! Check out our kindergarteners in their comfies!

During library class, students at Castleton Elementary School read the Red Clover book, Me and the Boss by Michelle Edwards. This story is about a brother and sister who learn how to sew at the public library. Students in grades 3-4 made a design on felt and sewed using needles and floss.

Last Friday, second graders went to Pond Hill Ranch for a community engagement activity. Students enjoyed brushing horses, practiced roping bulls with artificial/plastic models, and saw pigs, calves, goats, and lots of horses. All students received a free pass to attend a rodeo next year.

Crazy Sock Day. Here are our youngest students and our oldest students sporting their fun socks! We wrap up School Spirit Week tomorrow with Comfy Day!
