A new community art project is coming to Fair Haven, inviting creativity, connection, and a little artistic adventure for all ages.
Slate Valley art teachers Darcie Parrot, Alyssa McMahon, and Marcella Ray-Mullikan have collaborated to create a Community Mini Art Gallery, inspired by the popular Little Free Libraries. Instead of "take a book, leave a book," this unique installation encourages community members to "take a piece of art, leave a piece of art."
The gallery structure itself was built by Mr. Stanton's Project Build middle school students, making it a true collaboration between Slate Valley students and staff.
Located at the north entrance of Fair Haven Park, the miniature gallery is designed to inspire creativity throughout the community. Visitors are encouraged to create small, original works of art and place them inside the gallery for others to enjoy. If a particular piece speaks to you, simply leave one of your own creations in exchange and take home the artwork you love.
To celebrate the gallery's opening, the Slate Valley Art Department will host a Ribbon Cutting and Community Art Celebration on Wednesday, August 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Community members of all ages are invited to stop by, create a miniature work of art, explore the gallery, enjoy a snack, and help launch this new community tradition.
Whether you're an experienced artist or simply enjoy being creative, everyone is welcome to participate. The Community Mini Art Gallery is a reminder that art is meant to be shared—and that even the smallest creations can make a big impact.
