A high-angle full shot shows two men standing on dry leaves in front of a red wooden shed next to a very tall tree, and they appear to be pouring water. The man in front wears a red jacket, blue pants, and green boots, and he is holding a container over a puddle of water with a wire near the tree. The second man is standing right behind him wearing a green hat, a black shirt, and beige pants and has a light beard and mustache. His mouth is closed, but he appears to be talking or looking at the water. The tree has dark brown bark, and the shed is red with small windows and a chimney, with grey steam coming from it. The leaves are light to dark brown and cover the ground and rocks. The man in front is looking down at his bucket, while the second man looks forward at the tree with a concentrated expression. The camera is steady.
A man in a camouflage hat stands to the right, supervising two children near a large tree. One child, wearing an orange hat and a red plaid jacket, stands near a metal sap bucket hanging from the trunk. The second child, in a purple hat and pink jacket, stands on a small stone wall nearby. White smoke rises from a building in the background.
A man in a camouflage hat and black hoodie stands outdoors, gesturing toward a large, mature tree with rough bark. In the foreground, the backs of three children wearing colorful winter hats (pink, purple, and blue) are visible as they watch him. In the background, a rustic red wooden building with a metal roof emits white smoke from its chimney.
A candid, medium shot photo of a man and two children tending to maple sap buckets on a large tree during a late winter/early spring day. The man, wearing a camouflage baseball cap, black sweatshirt with a white dog logo, and beige cargo pants, stands on the right, holding a metal rod. The first child, facing away from the camera on the left, wears a vibrant orange beanie, a red and black plaid flannel jacket, and camouflage pants, looking at a sap bucket. The second child, in the center, wears a purple knit hat and a bright pink and purple patterned coat, and is looking at a metal bucket near her. Behind them is a large, rough-barked tree, and beyond that, a rustic red-sided building with a metal roof is partially obscured by trees. Steam rises from a chimney on the building, indicating sap boiling. There is a metal ATV parked near the building. The ground is dry grass and fallen leaves with stacked firewood nearby. The lighting is diffused under an overcast sky.

1st Grade shaped flower graphs!
3 months ago, Kelley Schultz
These alt-text descriptions focus on the visual content of the bulletin board and the student work, providing clear context for the "Shape Flower" first-grade math and art project. Overall Display IMG_3142: A wide shot of a classroom bulletin board labeled "FIRST GRADE" against a blue background. The board displays several student-made paper flowers in orange pots. Each flower is constructed from various geometric shapes (triangles, hexagons, rhombuses, and rectangles). Below each flower is a completed "Shape Flower Graph" worksheet where students have tallied and graphed the number of shapes used.
: A close-up of a paper flower art project. The flower has a yellow hexagon face with googly eyes and a smiley face, surrounded by eight pink and red triangle petals. The stem is a green rectangle with two green rhombus leaves. Below it, Liam’s worksheet shows a bar graph peaking at 8 for triangles and a tally of 4 circles, 2 rectangles, and 2 rhombuses.
A close-up of a different flower featuring many overlapping pink triangle petals that create a starburst effect. The flower sits in a paper orange pot. The accompanying worksheet shows a bar graph with a high count for triangles (8) and smaller bars for circles, rectangles, and rhombuses.

The accompanying worksheet shows a bar graph with a high count for triangles (8) and smaller bars for circles, rectangles, and rhombuses. IMG_3143 (Russell): A close-up of Russell's project. His flower is more minimalist, featuring a yellow hexagon face and only two large red triangle petals extending like wings. The worksheet below shows a more even distribution on the bar graph, with "circles" (the googly eyes and centers) marked as the most used shape at 4. Detail Shots IMG_3146: A vertical close-up of the "wing-style" flower from Russell's project. It emphasizes the geometric construction: a yellow hexagon for the head, two red triangles for petals, two green rhombuses for leaves, and a long green rectangle for the stem, all "planted" in a layered orange paper pot.

Slate Valley Estimated Tax Rates Remain Stable - Decreases Expected in Largest Towns

As we approach the FY27 budget revote on March 31, 2026, here are a few key highlights:

• Education spending (budget less local revenue) increase: just 0.86%
• Per-pupil increase (2.7%) is due to declining enrollment—not new spending
• No estimated tax rate increases at or above 7%
• Estimated decreases in our largest towns:
  Castleton: –3.44% | Fair Haven: –0.56%

By the numbers:
• $32M budget supports all five schools
• Among the lowest per-pupil spending in Vermont
• Estimated equalized tax rate: $1.2955 (down 5¢ from last year)

What this means:
• 62% of taxpayers pay based on income sensitivity—many may pay less than property-based estimates
• Local tax trends continue to differ from statewide headlines
