8th grade spent the day visiting CCV in Rutland. They got a taste of college classes, learned more about higher education and options they have as they head to high school and beyond.

Yesterday the 7th and 8th graders were transported 50 years ago to 1972! They had a chance to explore older tools and technologies like antique encyclopedias, Viewmasters, Litebrites, and rotary telephones. They all had a blast trying to type their names exactly in the center of a page on a manual typewriter. Only a handful were able to do it! It was a fun blast from the past.

Unfortunately, Boys and Girls Club will be closed this week (April 25-April 29) at the Fair Haven Grade School Site.

7th and 8th grade students visited Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade classes to read Spanish books the older students have been reading in Spanish class. Through different stories, Spanish students have been learning a variety of vocabulary and improving their reading skills in the target language, as well as practicing reading aloud in Spanish.
Middle School students created flashcards they donated to elementary students so our little ones could continue to practice with some of the words they learned in Spanish. It was a wonderful experience for our students and they had such a great time. Students are looking forward to doing it again sometime!

We were so SO EXCITED to hold our first in-person concert in over two years! K-2 music students held a pajama party with Mrs. Hutchins directing the party. Our 7/8 band also performed for a packed house under the direction of Mrs. Adams. FHGS would like to extend a huge "thank you!" to both of these fabulous teachers for all their hard work putting together a great night for our students and families. Many teachers and staff were on hand to help the concert run smoothly. We couldn't have done it without them as well. We hope families enjoyed the night and were just as excited to be back at FHGS! We look forward to many more events with you.

This last couple of weeks has been buzzing with activity in the library!
We read "Honeybee: The Busy Life of Apis Mellifera" by Candance Flemming and learned all about honeybees. Did you know that honeybees on average travel 500 miles and visit over 30,000 flowers, only to gather enough nectar for 1/2 teaspoon of honey? Honeybees sure work hard! Our students also showcased their hard work by programming robots to either visit flowers (kindergarten) or travel through a honeybee's lifecycle (1st - 4th grades). K-2 worked with beebots while 3 and 4th worked with ozobots. The students made some mistakes and experienced frustration but their determination paid off when their robots accomplished what they wanted them to do!

As a reminder, there is a special meeting on Tuesday, April 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the Fair Haven Union High School Band Room to discuss the proposed FY23 budget (Article 2), which will be voted on by Australian ballot on Wednesday, April 13th.

FHGS Kindergarten Students have been hard at work collecting donations for the Rutland County Humane Society. Together, with other FHGS Students and Staff, they raised $366 to help purchase items the animals there need. A Humane Society Representative stopped by to share more with kindergarten about the animals, the work people do there, and to accept the donation for the animals. Way to go Kindergarten!
