Slate Valley

Today, the Career Exploration class traveled to Telescope Casual Furniture for an engaging behind-the-scenes look at one of the region’s long-standing family-owned manufacturers. Founded in New York City in 1903 as the Telescope Cot Bed & Novelty Company, the business originally produced wood cots and camp stools with innovative “telescoping” legs before relocating to Granville in 1932.

Students were guided through the facility by Kait Warren, Vice President of Marketing and a fifth-generation member of the founding family. During the tour, students explored the manufacturing process, observed advanced machinery and fabrication techniques in action, and learned how teamwork, technology, craftsmanship, and innovation all play a role in producing Telescope’s outdoor furniture.
