It's Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! This morning Slate Valley administrators kicked off the celebration by delivering coffee and danishes to faculty and staff at Fair Haven Union Middle & High School. We are thankful for their unwavering commitment to the students of our district. Every day this week they will honor the teachers and staff at one of our district schools! Stay tuned to see who's next?

Available to every student, every morning!

On Friday, all students and staff at Castleton Elementary School spent the morning volunteering their time to "Green Up" various public locations. It was a beautiful day giving back to the community.

From FHUMHS Co-Principal, Ms. Paquette:
On Friday, we did some incredible things at school. It was a beautiful day and our students participated in Green Up in their local community, learning how to be citizens that show up, do the work and walk the walk. Our Middle School students also did Lifetime Activities. Students went fishing at Lake Bomoseen, kayaking on Glen Lake, worked on the yearbook, participated in team building activities, played ultimate frisbee, explored yoga, archery, technology, learned how to decorate cupcakes, practiced self care and more. Most importantly, they connected and built relationships with each other, adults and their larger community. Thank you to the staff and community members who have given their time, equipment and skill to support this work. Thank you to the Slate Valley Unified Union School District for supporting these endeavors. Thank you to the community members who support our school district and take care of our children. And most importantly - thank you to our students. You are what matters.

Yesterday was a special day for CES students in grades 1 and 2. They were invited to the Castleton Free Library who hosted a visit from Vermont Children's author and illustrator Ashley Wolff! Ms. Wolff, along with her furry companion Rufus, spoke to the students about working as an author/illustrator. She then continued by reading one of her books, demonstrating drawing an animal with human characteristics, using Rufus as the model, and concluded by leading a drawing activity where students were asked to draw an animal of their choosing. It was a morning packed full of fun activities. The visit was topped off with each student borrowing a book from the library. A huge thank you to Ms. Sharon Lovett-Graff, of the Castleton Free Library, who organized this wonderful event and of course to Ms. Wolff for sharing her time, passion and talent with our kids.

A letter from FHGS Kindergarten teachers:
Dear families and members of the community,
The past few months, Kindergarten students at Fair Haven Grade School have spent a great deal of time learning about the concept of community and, more specifically, our own communities. Students explored community places, community workers, different community environments, and brainstormed ways to help our community. As part of the unit, we're excited to share our culminating project which entends to benefit members of our community. This year, students participated in writing brief notes or letters of thanks to veterans that have served our country. These notes will be placed around Fair Haven at various shops and strores with an accompanyingy donation bin. All proceeds will be donated to Friends of Veterans, a local nonporfit organization. Should you have interest in donating directly, please feel free to send donations to the grade school with a note that it is for the Kindergarten Friends of Veterans project, or seek out a donation bin at a local establishement. As always, thank you for your interest and support in our work.
Sincerely,
Mr. Danyow & Mrs. McCrea

Middle school students in the new FHUMHS Design Lab are exploring additive and subtractive manufacturing and using GlowForge laser-cutters and Ultimaker 3D-Printers to build their designs. Most are using TinkerCAD, while some students are trying out the Adobe Suite to create their designs. One student created a custom truck bed printed on the Ultimaker.
