Reminder: The last student day for the Slate Valley Unified Union School District will be Tuesday, June 17, 2025. This date accounts for the snow days we had to make up during the school year. Please note: June 17th will also be an early release day.

SOAR all the way into summer FHGS Falcons!

What would the end of the month be without a FALCON Gathering? We held the last Falcon Gathering for the 2024-2025 school year today to celebrate our students for showing our SOAR values. Congratulations to all the winners this month!

First-grade students received a special reward for meeting their growth goals and/or grade-level standards on the STAR 360 assessment! Mr. Danyow’s class earned the chance to pie him in the face, while Mrs. McCrea’s class celebrated by covering her in silly string. The students had an absolute blast—it was a fun and memorable way to celebrate their hard work and achievement!

Over the past few weeks, third-grade students at FHGS have been working on biography research papers. Each student selected a notable historical figure to study. They conducted research from books and credible websites to write a paper. The project culminated with an interactive wax museum event. Students transformed into their person. During the event, other classes and teachers walked through the museum pressing imaginary buttons to bring each wax figure to life. Students read a script sharing key details about the historical person they were dressed as. It was a great learning experience that brought learning to life! FHGS held our Celebration of Learning tonight. As always, it is so much fun to see the students explaining to their parents the learning they have been doing throughout the school year. SOAR Falcons SOAR!

This morning, all 6th graders had a special visit from the Slate Valley Middle School team as part of our ongoing efforts to support students through their transition to middle school.
The Middle School Principal, Ms. Paquette, School Counselor, Mrs. Ezzo, and two teachers, Mr. Clark and Mr. Merrill, traveled to each elementary school to meet with the 6th grade classes. They introduced themselves, shared what life in middle school is like, and answered lots of thoughtful questions from students.
Each student received a brochure featuring photos and descriptions of all middle school faculty and staff—helping our future middle schoolers get to know the faces and roles of the team that will support them next year.
This visit is just one of the many ways Slate Valley works to make the move to middle school exciting, informed, and welcoming for our students.

This morning, our entire school came together for a heartfelt Memorial Day Concert, led by our Music Teacher Mrs. Cynthia Hutchins. Each grade, from Kindergarten through 6th, participated by singing patriotic songs such as: The National Anthem, Yankee Doodle, You're a Grand Old Flag and America the Beautiful. The program concluded with a solemn and moving performance of Taps, both sung and played in honor of those who gave their lives for our country.
The message in our program captured the spirit of the tribute beautifully:
"Thank you for joining us as we come together to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day is a time of reflection, gratitude, and respect for the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy. A special thank you to the members of the American Legion Post 49 Color Guard for their presence and service in today's program."
We are proud of our students for their voices, their respect, and their understanding of what Memorial Day means. ❤️🤍💙

Slate Valley is proud to honor seven incredible women whose dedication and service have left a lasting impact on our school district. From guiding entire schools to supporting individual students, each has played a vital role in shaping our learning community. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to principal Kim Prehoda and assistant principal Bonnie Lenihan, whose leadership and vision have inspired both staff and students; Lynn LaClair, our proficiency- based learning coach, who championed innovation and personalized growth; Deb Williams, our school nurse whose compassion ensured health and safety every day; and our three instructional assistants, Veronica Lambert, Helen Reed and Mary Lou Williams, whose tireless support uplifted classrooms with care and commitment. Their legacies will live on in the lives they’ve touched, and we thank them for their years of unwavering service.

You're invited to the next Community Advisory Council (CAC) Meeting on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 5:45 PM.
