Kindergarten literacy night for parents and students was a great success. Everyone had a good time and went home with new ideas to help their children.
What a fantastic assembly we had today! NED'S Mindset Mission visited FHGS and talked about having a growth mindset. We learned what the letters of NED'S name stands for, got to watch some great yo-yo tricks, and even a little magic!

This is definitely a highlight of the week! Thank you, Caring Canines! Our students love reading to you!
This week in Pre-K, parents and guardians joined their students for some fun Dr. Seuss activities. Stations included pin the Hat on the Cat, Fishing for One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, creating beaded Truffula Trees, and finger painting Thing 1 or Thing 2. It was a great time!
On Wednesday, February 7th, Superintendent, Ms. Olsen-Farrell and Director of Curriculum, Mr. O'Meara, enjoyed conversation over lunch with members of the FHGS Student Voice. The students shared that school day favorites included recess, math, science and dismissal. They also gave Ms. Olsen-Farrell and Mr. O'Meara a tour of their school store. Their list of improvements were:
-to provide Vegetarian options at lunch
-Snacks should be free, but just 1 a day
-They shouldn’t use Lexia
-They really needed to stock up on stress balls in the school store!
What do you do on the 100th day of school? You make yourself 100 years old and wear Day 100 crowns!
This week the 5th graders worked on new vocabulary words with Kindergarteners . They had fun with this activity!
This week we celebrate both school counselors and our school-based clinicians for all they do. Slate Valley greatly appreciates their dedication, compassion, and hard work.
Thank you!
Exciting News!!! NED's Mindset Mission is coming to our school on Monday, February 12th. NED stands for "Never Give Up", "Encourage Others", and "Do Your Best". YoYos will be used by the performers as a way to share their message. We will have YoYos available for purchase next week. The money earned from the sale of YoYos will allow an additional school to host a NED performance at no-cost, just as we are at FHGS. Look for information about YoYos going home with students.
It's Vermont School Board Recognition Month! Thank you to our SVUUSD Board for their dedicated service and commitment to our educational system.
