Fair Haven Union Middle and High School

On Sunday, May 7 2023, the 28th annual banquet of the Vermont Chapter of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame was held at Castleton University. Carson Babbie was recognized as a High School Scholar Athlete Honoree for his outstanding academic achievement, school and community leadership and football performance in the state of Vermont. He was supported in receiving this honor by the Slaters coaching staff. Congratulations, Carson!

Students in Mr. Merolle's Horticulture Class learned how to make Dandelion Fritters, and enjoyed dipping them in the maple syrup boiled down a couple months ago.

Last week, students in Ms. Clement's Foods Class took part in a cupcake baking competition. Entries were judged on originality, presentation and of course taste. Congratulations to the "green" team for winning with their lemon, raspberry filled cupcakes.

Meet Slate Valley Faculty & Staff Monday: Featuring Kim Alexander

The FHUMHS Baseball and Softball teams are hosting a Benefit Cookout to support the Martelle and Bouzianis family, after they lost their home to a devastating fire. This family includes 4 athletes from our baseball and softball programs. The event will take place on Saturday, May 13th following the Varsity Baseball and Softball home games. Burgers, hot dogs, chips, dessert, and drinks will be served from 4:00-7:00pm in the circle at FHUMHS. The community is invited to join us and eat outside picnic style or stop by to grab take out. Recently during an inservice, our district Instructional Assistants attended an awareness level training with Center for Health and Learning called UMatter Suicide Prevention. This valuable training was sponsored through an Aware Grant.

The Guidance Office just received this scholarship information and want to share it with all seniors! The Clarence Haynes Memorial Scholarship Application accepted: Jan 1 - June 1 annually. Award Amounts are up to 4 awards of up to $1,000 each. To qualify you or one of your parents must be residents of the GRCSU School District. Fair Haven Union High School hosted their annual job fair today, and it was a great success! Thank you to the many businesses who spent their morning chatting with our 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders. It was a wonderful collaboration between community and school. Compliments were shared about our students, who were reported to be engaged, interested and courteous during exchanges with vendors.

Trivia Tuesday: Did You Know?

It is an exciting time for our 8th graders; we are in the process of planning students’ transitions to Fair Haven Union High School. Late this week and next, FHU High School Counselors will be meeting with each eighth grade student to make them more knowledgeable about the high school course offerings, graduation requirements, education plans, and other opportunities that high school brings. The Fair Haven Union High School Counselors have a schedule for individual meetings with students and families. Please call 802-265-3636 to reach the FHU Counseling Office to see when your child’s FHUHS counselor is available for these appointments. Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend, however it is not required. As a reminder, these are course requests and not final schedules. Your child will receive their schedule in August prior to the first day of school.
