We have an exciting week of post-season games and events, with three of our teams playing in the state semi-finals, and three athletes competing in the XC Meet of Champions.
Ticket prices for the football and all state championships games are listed below. Tickets can be purchased on Go Fan under the VPA events.

The Law Enforcement and Public Service class went on an exciting field trip to the police academy Wednesday. Students had the opportunity to tour the facilities, use the training simulator, and learn about K-9 handling. It was a greatl day filled with valuable hands-on learning experiences.
Today's Boys Soccer quarter-final match will be played at Danville Town Fields, directions are in the link below. Game time is 3 pm, and as of now, is NOT being livestreamed. If that changes, we will update this post as soon as possible. NFHS subscription will be necessary to stream all post-season game per the Vermont Principals' Association.

With the fall high school sports regular seasons at an end, we wanted to share how to continue watching our student-athletes during the postseason. While we regularly stream sporting events on our YouTube channel for regular season home games on LaPlaca Field, all Slater athletic’s home playoff games are required to stream exclusively to the NFHS Network (NFHS) in order to comply with a Vermont Principals’ Association (VPA) directive. The VPA has an agreement in place with NFHS that postseason games are live-streamed exclusively via the NFHS platform. As a result, to find any home postseason games that we live stream go to our dedicated NFHS page found at the link below. Please note, there is a subscription fee to access the NFHS service.

Congratulations to our five seniors—Max Kyhill, Gabe Bache, Phil Bean, Alex Messer, and Ty Ferguson—who have been selected to represent FHUHS at this year’s North-South All-Star Classic! The game will take place on Sunday, November 17th, 1:00 PM at Castleton University.

Last week, students from Ms. LeBrun's Work-Based Learning class had the exciting opportunity to visit Hubbardton Forge. They received an in-depth tour of the facility, with chances to engage and ask questions in each department. We are always grateful for our strong partnership with Hubbardton Forge and the valuable learning experiences they provide.
Congratulations to our Slate Valley Unified teachers who made it to the final voting round of the Best Teacher of the Lakes Region contest! A special shout-out to Ms. Aliyah Edmonds and Mrs. Tricia Doran for their fantastic achievement, securing second and third place! The Best of the Best Lakes Region contest, held annually, celebrates exceptional people, businesses and organizations, with nominees chosen and voted on by the Lakes Region community. Slate Valley was proudly represented!

On October 17th, over 80 middle school students from the 8th grade class attended the VSAC STEM Fair at theVT University campus in Castleton from 9:00–12:00. Students engaged in a variety of hands-on activities sponsored by local businesses and non-profit agencies designed to help students envision a future career in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. VTrans, the MINT, Vermont Works for Women, Rutland Regional Medical Center, VEEP, the VT Army National Guard and many others set up tables for students to explore. Students concluded the day with a tour of the campus and some were even invited to sit in on a class. Slate Valley was well-represented and our students made us proud! Special thanks to VSAC, UVM: Castleton, and the FHUMHS 8th Grade teachers and Instructional Assistants for chaperoning. A special thank you to teacher Mr. VanDerKern for organizing this great field trip!
Dear Slate Valley community, please consider attending one of the Agency of Education’s Listen and Learn Tour events. Your voice is critically important.
The Vermont Agency of Education announced in a recent press release the next phase of the 2024 Listen and Learn Tour and invites the public to participate in community conversations to inform how the Agency delivers services and supports to Vermont’s education system.
These public engagement sessions will help the Agency develop its strategic plan and ensure that its work is supporting the educational priorities of communities across Vermont. Following a series of data reports and regional planning sessions with more than 250 education leaders, the Agency is eager to expand these conversations to include educators, parents, students, and community members across the state. The Agency encourages broad participation and welcomes input from all Vermonters, including students, families, and community partners - students are integral to these conversations and are encouraged to attend.
Each public engagement session will take place from 6:00 pm. to 8:00 pm at the below locations. Every session will begin with introductory information and data to support more in-depth conversations, followed by breakout sessions on topics related to student achievement and support, career and college readiness, and school budgets, among other emerging priorities. Detailed agendas will be provided on the Agency webpage closer to the events.
