Message from Superintendent Brooke Olsen-Farrell:
Dear Slate Valley,
I hope this message finds you well. We want to take a moment to update you on the recent school budget vote that, unfortunately, did not pass. The vote was 1004 yes and 1468 no. The article transferring money to a reserve account was successful. We understand that this news may be disappointing for some of you, as it is for us.
The proposed budget aimed to address critical needs and enhance the overall educational experience for our students. We appreciate the thoughtful consideration that went into the decision-making process by those who participated in the vote. While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, we respect and acknowledge the democratic nature of our community.
Our top priority remains providing the best possible education for our students, and we will continue to work diligently to find alternative solutions in light of the budget failure. This setback challenges us to reassess our priorities and explore creative ways to meet the needs of our students within the financial constraints we face.
We encourage open dialogue and welcome any suggestions or concerns you may have. Your input is invaluable, and we believe that together, as a united community, we can navigate through these challenges and find solutions that benefit our students and the entire school community.
In the coming weeks, we will hold board meetings to discuss the budget failure, gather feedback, and explore potential options moving forward. Your participation and engagement are crucial during this process, and we encourage you to attend these meetings to share your thoughts and ideas.
We remain committed to transparency and collaboration as we work towards a shared goal of providing an exceptional education for our students. Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to working together to overcome this challenge.

The FHU Music and Art programs are happy to announce our first B.E.A.T night happening this Thursday, March 7th, from 7 PM to 9 PM.

Eighth grader, Shira H., proudly shows her submission to the 2024 Rubber Band Challenge sponsored by Akron University. Her piece is a model of the human hand, with various rubber bands representing bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments. All students in Mr. VanDerKern’s Design classes participated in this year's challenge.

**3rd ANNUAL CAREER FAIR at FAIR HAVEN UNION**
Please take a minute to consider having your company attend the 3rd Annual Career Fair at Fair Haven Union Middle & High School on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 9am to 11am. This year, we have invited interested Juniors and Seniors from several local high schools. We are excited to offer these students a chance to see what opportunities are available across multiple industries. The goal has always been to provide our students with opportunities that they may not have otherwise realized as well as to introduce them to fields that they may never have considered. We would like to invite you and your company to come and present not just open positions, but possibilities. Each of the students attending this career fair are chances to make a difference not just in your company, but in all of our futures. Whether your industry is Waste, Technology, Finance, Science, Arts, Medical, or Political - whether you need a college degree, specialized training, or a high school diploma - you all provide goods and services that make a difference.

Where: Fair Haven Union Middle High School- Cafeteria, Lobby, Gym
What: Music and food in the cafeteria, mini games (fun for kids and adults!) in the gym and art sale in the lobby
Purpose: Raise money for the music and art programs, provide students with unique experiences they wouldn't otherwise get, create an entertaining and engaging environment for all to connect!
Coming March 20th! The Importance of Being Earnest, performed by the FHUMHS Theatre Group. Rehearsals continue, and excitement is rising as costumes start to arrive! A special thanks to the Vermont State University: Castleton campus!
