FHUHS Senior Spotlight: Breanna Cram

The FHUHS Law Enforcement class invites former students to come and talk about their public service careers. Recently Sam St. Peter discussed studying fire science and working as a live-in firefighter in Gorham, ME. Then Leif Cegalis came in on his leave to discuss his experiences with basic training and infantry school with the U.S. Army. After leave, Leif heads to airborne school. Both former Slaters are succeeding and achieving in their chosen career fields. They are making Slater Nation proud.

Not only did the boys deliver a win, but during halftime we celebrated the homecoming of fellow Slater, Colbi, along with enjoying a crazy Mascot Madness half court shot challenge! Our student athletic leaders also talked about the importance of mental health while tossing t shirts into the stands.

The FHUMHS First LEGO League (FLL) attended the Southern Vermont FLL pre-qualifying event yesterday, Sunday, 12/3.
Our Design teacher and robotics club coach, Mr. VanDerKern, reported that their robot hub (brain) had malfunctioned during the event and will need to be replaced, but that the group still had a great time today!
The Robotics Club will be back at in on Wednesday afternoons, fixing their bot so they can challenge other area teams.

Yesterday, the FHUHS Outdoor Pursuits class traveled to Castleton Elementary School and used some of their wooded area to work on creating tarp shelters. Students teamed up and had to think about location of where to build the shelter, using the correct knots to tie up the tarps, along with wind and rain protection. To warm up, students also made some hemlock tree tea over a small fire. It was a great trip!

Please join us for the next Community Advisory Coucil meeting this Monday, December 4th at 5:45 PM in the Central Office conference room located at FHUMHS. Focus Friday: Family Lunches - Over the last couple of weeks some of our schools opened their doors and invited families to join students for lunch. Benson Village School and Orwell Village School served a festive Thanksgiving meal, while Castleton Elementary School had families from each grade join their students on specified days throughout the week. It is always nice to see community take part of our students' day.
