Dear Slate Valley Families,
As we head into flu and cold season, we are seeing more and more illness. If your child is sick, please keep them home. Please understand that this year, even with allergy symptoms, you need to keep your child home and if it lasts more than 24 hours, they also require a Covid test per the Vermont Department of Health. Please do not send them in and tell them to go see the nurse.
Students with any symptoms will be sent home. This year, even seemingly innocent symptoms can spread illness and students need to stay home to prevent the spread of not only Covid, but other illnesses like colds, flu, and other viruses that end up spreading, requiring others to have to stay home. By keeping your child home, some of that spread is stopped. Please read the following document from the VT Department of Health, it should answer any question you may have about safe return to school with illness: https://5il.co/10qu5.
Thank you very much for you cooperation with this important issue.

If you weren't able to make it here on Saturday to watch the Varsity Field Hockey team win in an exciting game that featured a game winning goal in OT against Brattleboro you can now watch a full replay of the game on YouTube at the following link. https://youtu.be/ZIXFLgNLAb4

October 14, 2021
Dear Slater Families,
I am following up in response to the allegations that are being made concerning the Fair Haven and Hartford Varsity Girls Soccer game on October 7th. It was alleged by the Hartford team/coach that the Fair Haven fans sexually harassed the Hartford soccer players. We took the allegations very seriously and launched an immediate investigation into the matter.
Our investigation scope was limited to the game tape, adults, chaperones, fans, school resource officer, administration, officials, and students.
The investigation found that there were inappropriate comments from some Fair Haven student fans such as “tuck in your shirt”, “you suck”, use of profanity, calling out opposing players by name and number, moaning and barking. The individuals who made those comments will be dealt with in accordance with our disciplinary procedures.
The investigation also found that many of the adults at the game were not aware of any of these issues, including the officials, our administration, and our coach. In the future, we would like to provide and promote an environment where everyone is empowered and encouraged to stop this kind of behavior before it escalates. There is no question that our culture needs to change.
We sincerely apologize for any distress this has caused any player and are working hard to ensure this never happens again. The school administration is putting a plan in place to immediately address fan behavior at games. This inappropriate behavior is not representative of who we are as a community. We are committed to doing better.
The recording of the game is available at https://bit.ly/3lgbWP4 for anyone to watch.
Best,
Brooke Olsen-Farrell
Superintendent

This afternoon's JV football game against Otter Valley has been cancelled as Otter Valley doesn't currently have enough players to be able to field a team.

Tonight the Slaters Varsity Boys Soccer team is scheduled to kick off against Hartford at 6:00 pm. Whether it's in-person or over on our YouTube channel livestream, https://bit.ly/2YudYmg, we look forward to seeing Slater Nation turnout in droves to support the team.

It's a picture perfect October evening here in Fair Haven, the smell of freshly popped and buttered popcorn is surrounding LaPlaca Field, and there is still roughly 30 minutes before we kickoff. So, Slater Nation, why not come out, cheer on the Slaters and help raise some funds for Breast Cancer Awareness? We'll see you here shortly.

If you aren't able to join us tonight at LaPlaca Field as FHUHS Varsity Girls Soccer team takes on Hartford, with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 pm, join us over on our YouTube channel at the following link. https://bit.ly/3lgbWP4
