Dear FHUHS Families,
We wanted to let you know that this coming Thursday, February 3, we will be having a school-wide presentation by Chris Herren.
Chris Herren was an extraordinary basketball player, star of his Fall River, Massachusetts high school basketball team. Chris played at Boston College and Fresno State and two seasons in the NBA- including one with his home team The Boston Celtics- and seven seasons overseas before losing it all to the disease of addiction.
In the upcoming presentation at Fair Haven Union High School, Chris will share his recovery journey. The event will begin with a 5 minute film introducing Herren and showing highlights of his basketball career and his dream to play in the NBA which began to unravel by making a few bad decisions. He’ll take us on his journey from addiction to sobriety. He will also relate his story by addressing themes of gateway drugs, prescription drug use, vaping and the responsibility of prevention starting with ALL of us.
Last year we dedicated an afternoon to showing his documentary, The First Day. The students’ response was that the film was very effective and thought provoking. Because the school event is for the students, we wanted to offer you an opportunity to view the documentary. This way you will be able to see/hear Chris’ story. One last bit of information- while the hope is that all students would be able to attend in person in the FHU gym, because of COVID, there are virtual options in classrooms. If you do NOT want your child(ren) to listen to Chris’s story, choosing to OPT out for alternative activities is possible.

Granville HS Covid Protocol - Athletes and bench personnel are allowed 4 spectators each. Masks must be worn by all, at all times. Granville chaperones will be checking spectators in at the door.

There will be a vaccine clinic at FHUHS on Friday, January 28th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Paityn proudly represented Fair Haven in an all girls tournament in Coxsackie, NY. She wrestled in Freestyle tournament and a Folkstyle tournament. She took 1st in the Freestyle and 2nd in the Folkstyle. She did an amazing job! One of the girls she wrestled twice (first time lost in OT and 2nd time lost by 1 point 6-5) was an All American wrestler that went to the Nationals last year in Fargo North Dakota and was ranked 22nd in the Nation in 2020!! She said Paityn was her toughest match since Nationals. Paityn also had a recruiter from Elmira College come and check her out at the tournament! He was super impressed and said she'd be a great fit for his all women's team.
We couldn't be more proud of her!

Dear Slate Valley Families,
We again thank you for your patience and understanding as we all contend with the ever changing guidance. This is happening nationwide in regards to the Return-to-Play Protocol. While it is still recommended, we no longer require the medical clearance form for your child to return to physical activity including sports, PE, and recess. We encourage you to communicate with your child’s physician after their covid diagnosis, but they will no longer be excluded from physical activity. Please let us know if your child has restrictions following their covid illness, but otherwise they will be able to participate fully in all physical activity. Again, we apologize for this change and please contact your school nurse with any questions.
